2019 Year in Review

Hello - it's me (us!) Can you believe that this year and THIS DECADE are almost over? It's wild. Despite only posting twice this year, 2019 was good year with some fun trips, life changes, and more house projects than just the bathroom makeover. So in an effort to keep this blog (that has kind of just turned into our slow home renovation diary) going, I thought I'd throw together a big year in review post with some photos and highlights of 2019. I hope you enjoy!

- We started off 2019 celebrating our one year wedding anniversary/ten year dating anniversary by seeing Hamilton (Nick also had a mustache for awhile.)
- Nick left his job as a music teacher and became a full-time baker at DiAnoia's Eatery (remember to follow @wildsciencebread on Instagram if you're not already.)
- We finished up our bathroom makeover - be sure to read the full makeover post here!

- Nick ran his first half marathon! (And did a super good job!)
- I took a pottery course at Union Project and made some fun, little dishes for around the house.
- We took our first trip to Toronto. We've been wanting to visit a long time - I think I might throw together a post with a bunch of photos from Toronto because we liked it there a lot.

- 2019 was the year of landscaping. We had essentially ALL of the shrubs, bushes, chain link fences, etc. around our house removed by our landscaper friend (and with Nick's help.) No full, finished photos of this yet, but it's setting us up to (hopefully) paint our house in the spring and then landscape to our liking.
- We attended our only wedding of the year - at the home of Punxsutawney Phil.
- We started (and almost finished) working on our hallway. Full post coming on that once it's complete, but the before/after as is still gives me heart eyes. Notice a bit of a living room makeover as well - new sofa, chair, and light.

- In August our second niece was born, and in September we went to Florida to meet her and spend a little time at the beach.
- In September I turned 30, which terrified me for pretty much my entire 29th year but now that it's over EVERYTHING IS FINE.
- During our hallway renovation, I decided to give a little refresh to our dining room wall as well. I haven't taken any nice photos yet, but here's a quick snap. You can see what it looked like previous in our dining room makeover post here.

- Nick and I took a weekend trip to New York City, and visited/stayed in Brooklyn for the first time. We went to The Color Factory, which was so cool.
- Throughout the year I have gotten super into spin classes at Zenergy Cycling. I love it so much. I hit my 50th ride in the fall and am steadily approaching my 100th ride milestone. BTW I take all of my classes through ClassPass so here is my referral link if you want to try it with a $30 discount.
- We went to Fright Nights at Kennywood, which was fun and actually pretty spooky.

- Our master bedroom makeover was featured on Apartment Therapy! You can see our before and after post here.
- We saw The Distillers, which has been a dream of mine since I was about 15. Ugh, so good.
- To get into the Halloween spirit, we went to the annual Silence of the Lambs exhibit at Soldiers and Sailors, where they filmed parts of the movie, including the scene with the large cage. It wasn't super eventful, but I'm glad we did it once!
- Speaking of Halloween, my friend Jessica and I dressed as the girls from Booksmart - one of my favorite movies of the year.

 - Just recently over Thanksgiving, my friends and I took a girls trip to Atlanta and stayed in a cute tiny house. Here it is, if you want to book it! And here is my Airbnb referral link in case you've somehow never used Airbnb and want $40 off!
- Returning from Atlanta, Nick and I decorated our house for the holidays. We opted for no tree this year and decided to decorate our plants instead.
- Finally, we just celebrated Nick's 30th birthday last week and continued to celebrate all weekend! Happy birthday, Nick!

It's been a good year, but I'm really excited to see where 2020 and the start of a new decade takes us. The first year of our 30s, which is wild but also fun. We'll soon be celebrating our second wedding anniversary, and then in a couple months we're heading back to Europe - this time to SWITZERLAND!

As always, you can follow along with us on Instagram if you want to stay up to date on the happenings in our lives, but maybe in 2020 I'll feel reinvigorated to post here more often. Guess we'll see. Have a great rest of 2019!

xo, Sarah (& Nick)

  1. Wow, what a busy year for you! Can't wait to hear what you think of Switzerland- I went on my first international trip and have been dying to get back. We're trying to include it in a big Oktoberfest trip this year but we'll see if that actually happens ;)

Also interested to see how painting goes! Are you doing it yourself or hiring? This is a big item on our house to-do list so I'm curious to follow how yours!

    Happy Holidays!

    1. Thanks, Gretchen! We're super exited! A big Oktoberfest trip sounds really fun too :)

We're planning on doing the painting ourselves! Since we have a ranch, we're hoping it won't be too hard. We should only need a tall ladder in the back and a bit on the sides. I'm really looking forward to doing it - I've dreamt of painting the house since we bought it!

I hope you have a good holiday!
